EMI: Solutions and Design Considerations by KEMET

In this video, let's talk about the line of Inductor and Choke components, as it pertains to EMI. At the heart of a lot of EMI designs, capacitors play a very important role. I'll introduce the different ranges of capacitance based on voltage and technology among our products. This includes ceramic, film, tantalum, aluminum electrolytic, electrostatic double layer caps (supercapacitors), and our KO-CAP polymer capacitors.

What is EMI? KEMET’s EMI solutions will play an important role in the future. Find out which technologies and trends will shape our EMI designs. However, before getting too far in depth, let’s get one thing clear: What is EMI? There are two terms that are tossed around loosely: EMC and EMI, but what’s the difference?

Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) is the ability of electrical or electronic equipment to operate without affecting or being affected by other electrical or electronic equipment.

Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), also called Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) is the impairment of the performance of an electronic system by an unwanted electromagnetic disturbance or energy.

In this video, we will look at possible EMI causes and tips. Then, we will dive deep into designing with the goal of passing certification radiated and conducted emissions. Lastly, we will look at a real-world board design and apply some of the knowledge gained throughout the discussion.
